The incident occurred in the area of 106 Broadway behind the Stanley Building and the O'Keefe Center around 6:30 a.m. on Tuesday, July 12,  the university said on Twitter.

A suspect, later identified as 32-year-old Andrew Allard, allegedly approached someone while showing a handgun and stole their electric bike, Boston25 reports

Allard then apparently ran a few blocks away to a house on Broadway at Clover Street where he refused to come out, NBC Boston reports. Community members were asked to avoid the area at all costs during the exchange.

After negotiating with police and SWAT for several hours, Allard was taken into custody, Boston25 reports. The scene was officially cleared around 11:35 a.m., the City of Salem said on Twitter

Police also recovered the victim's bike and a BB gun, Boston25 reports. No injuries were reported and it is unclear whether any charges will be filed against Allard, the outlet continued.
